When brothers Tim and Dave Hare started Harbro (short for Hare Brothers) as a gas-station and automobile-repair facility on Linwood Avenue, they expected to face some challenges as a new business in Northbridge. However, it was 1973 and the OPEC Oil Crisis would soon leave the brothers without the ability to purchase gasoline to offer its customers— things were starting to look dire.
Having recently completed nursing school, Jane Hare had purchased herself a graduation present: a 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle. It was this car that Jane allowed her newly-wedded husband, Tim, to sell and raise funds for keeping the doors of Harbro open. With the proceeds, Tim was able to purchase used cars that he could fix-up and sell— the beginning of our story as a used-car dealership.
Despite Tim's eventual retirement, Harbro remains a family-owned & operated business 50 years later. His sons, Mike and Mark Hare, are proudly carrying on the family business and legacy— with lots of other family members and close friends having been brought on as staff over the years.
With two dealership locations, we are committed to offering the Blackstone Valley a better car-buying experience. We believe that buying a used car should be fun, not a hassle. Here at Harbro, we want you to feel like part of the family. You are always welcome here.
